Neurodivergence & BDSM— Online Event

$30.00

Sunday 13th September, 7pm GMT / 1pm PST

Why BDSM frameworks can feel grounding, regulating and emotionally intuitive.

There is a significant crossover between neurodivergence and BDSM, but most conversations stop at simply acknowledging that it exists. This session explores why.

Hosted by therapist Maya Attia LMFT, this discussion looks at the relationship between neurodivergence, structure, control, sensory processing and intimacy. Why clearly defined dynamics, rituals, scripts and negotiated expectations can feel calming rather than restrictive. Why BDSM frameworks can reduce ambiguity, decision fatigue and overstimulation, allowing some people to feel more present in their bodies and relationships.

Topics include:

  • Structure, ritual and predictability in BDSM
  • Sensory regulation, overwhelm and shutdown
  • Why scripts, negotiation and protocols can feel grounding
  • Performance anxiety vs presence
  • The role of consent, pacing and anticipation
  • Exploring kink authentically rather than performatively

Grounded in both clinical experience and lived experience within kink communities.

About Maya

Maya Attia is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, LMFT #139693, working with adults and couples across California. Her focus sits at the intersection of neurodivergence, kink, and ethical nonmonogamy, the overlap most therapists never learn to name, let alone work inside of.

Control and desire show up everywhere in her work. In the executive function struggles that make consistency feel impossible. In a Dom or sub dynamic negotiated with more honesty than most vanilla relationships manage. In the gap between what you want and what you have been taught you are allowed to want.

Maya is autistic and has spent ten years inside ENM and kink communities, so she brings lived experience alongside clinical training. She does not pathologize kink, BDSM, ethical nonmonogamy, or neurodivergence. She works with who you are, not against it.

If this talk resonates, Maya offers online therapy throughout California, with a focus on the Bay Area and Los Angeles. Find more at talkwithmaya.com or book a free consult to see if it is a fit.
